Request a QuoteSri Lanka's Tropical Vegetable Diversity
Sri Lanka's diverse agro-climatic zones — from the dry zone plains of Anuradhapura to the temperate highlands of Nuwara Eliya — support the cultivation of an extraordinary range of vegetables. Many of these are uniquely tropical varieties with growing demand in South Asian diaspora communities and specialty food markets globally.
Harvest Gate sources fresh vegetables directly from grower cooperatives and certified commercial farms. Our team conducts pre-export inspections and grades each consignment to ensure the size, freshness, and pest-free condition required by international import authorities.
Drumstick (Moringa oleifera)
The drumstick — or Moringa — is one of Sri Lanka's most nutritionally significant vegetables. Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, iron, calcium, and essential amino acids, drumstick pods and leaves are in strong demand from health food manufacturers, nutraceutical companies, and South Asian grocery chains worldwide.
Available As: Fresh pods, dried pods, Moringa leaf powder, frozen
Key Markets: UK, Canada, USA, UAE, Germany
Nutritional Highlight: High protein, iron, and antioxidant content
Bitter Gourd (Karawila)
Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) is a staple of South and Southeast Asian cooking and is widely valued for its blood sugar-regulating properties. Sri Lanka exports both the Indian (white) and Chinese (green) varieties in fresh and processed formats.
Varieties: White (Dambala type), Green Chinese type
Available As: Fresh, dried slices, powder
Key Markets: UK, France, UAE, Singapore, Japan
Okra (Lady's Finger)
Sri Lankan okra is prized for its tender texture, consistent sizing, and deep green colour. A high-volume export commodity, okra is used in South Asian, African, and Middle Eastern cuisines. We export fresh bundles, IQF frozen, and pickled okra for diverse market requirements.

Grade Standards: Size 4–8 cm (baby), 6–10 cm (regular)

Snake Gourd (Pathola)
The elongated, pale green snake gourd is a popular vegetable across South and Southeast Asia. Light in flavour with a high water content, it is used in curries and soups. Sri Lankan snake gourds are exported fresh in specialised long-produce cartons designed for supermarket shelf appeal.

Winged Bean (Dambala)
The winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) is a protein-rich, multipurpose legume unique to tropical Asia. With all parts of the plant edible — pods, leaves, flowers, tubers — the winged bean is an emerging superfood with strong potential in health food markets. Sri Lanka is one of the few countries that exports it commercially.
Available As: Fresh pods, dried seeds, dried leaf powder
Key Markets: Japan, South Korea, UK, Germany
Nutritional Highlight: 30–40% protein content in dried seeds

Our Expertise From Processing to Transportation
Vegetables are among the most perishable export commodities, and Harvest Gate has developed robust systems to maintain freshness from farm to market. Our pre-cooling facilities, export-grade carton packing, and cold-chain logistics minimise post-harvest losses and preserve the visual quality buyers expect.
We work closely with the Department of Agriculture Sri Lanka and the National Plant Quarantine Service to ensure all vegetable exports meet the phytosanitary requirements of destination markets including the EU, UK, and GCC countries.
